I read the first of these books with my fifth-grade class and my favorite teacher of all time. There are four out now, but I am fairly certain that a fifth book will be out fairly soon. These books are about a boy named Callum Hunt. He has been chosen to take the Iron trial, a test to get into a school for magic called the Magisterium. The only thing is, he doesn’t want to go. He has been told that the Mages do terrible things and that if he goes, he will essentially become one of them. So he does what no one has probably ever tried to do, he tries his best, to do his worst. Although, his worst is not nearly enough. What will happen while he attends the Magisterium? Will Callum try to flunk out? Will he find his place and have a Harry Potter-like situation? They are named The Iron trial, The Copper Gauntlet, The Bronze Key, and The Silver Mask.
I liked these books so much, that I got them from the library and had them all read while the rest of the class was still on the first book. They have both a profanity and romance factor of 0.
